Payroll API pricing: per payslip, not per employee

Last updated on Sep 19, 2026

Payroll API pricing is per payslip, on volume bands. It is not charged per employee per month, and it is a different price list from the employer plan you may have seen on our pricing page.

What does it cost?

The more payslips you produce in a month, the lower the price of each one, from £1.69 per payslip for the first 100 down to £0.18 above 50,000, with volumes above 100,000 on application. The full rate card and a live estimator are at https://www.moonworkers.co.uk/api, so you can price your own scenarios. There is no minimum commitment and no seat licence. Sandbox use is free and unlimited, and you are billed only once you submit real payroll. Prices exclude VAT.

How are payslips counted?

Counting is monthly. Every payslip produced in a calendar month counts, whatever the pay frequency. A weekly payroll produces four or five payslips per employee in a month rather than one, and is billed accordingly.

For example, a hundred client companies averaging five employees each, on monthly payroll, produce 500 payslips a month. The same hundred companies on weekly payroll produce closer to 2,200.

Is the employer plan price the API price?

No. The employer plan is for businesses running their own payroll in the Moonworkers app, with its own tiers. See "Pricing" for every plan side by side.
