What is Fanthread?

Sustainable, Eco-Friendly & Made in the USA. At Fanthread, we’re committed. We’re committed to treating our planet and the people on it with utmost respect. We’re committed to creating the highest quality, most comfortable gear on the market. We’re committed to good people and good technology. And we’re committed to driving change in the apparel manufacturing industry. It’s no secret that the apparel industry is in trouble. As consumers ourselves, we are more aware everyday of the environmental and social impacts of apparel manufacturing on our planet. Whether its through futuristic new technologies in apparel manufacturing like our zero-water dying process, or rediscovering and reinvesting in old-fashioned values like American-made products, craftsmen and wages; Fanthread promises to find the best, most ethical, and most sustainable way forward. We want to do better, we want you to join us. Because no item of clothing is worth more than our planet or the people that we share it with. Clean Practices for a better future. As of now, 20% of all global industrial pollution results not from the total process of manufacturing apparel, but from the release of toxic chemicals into our environment through water-based treatments of textiles. That includes everything from pre-treatment to finishing processes, including washing, dying, scouring, and bleaching. These commonly used textile dyeing processes alone release 72 toxic chemicals into our water supply, 30 of which cannot be removed with conventional treatment techniques. CLEAN PRODUCTION When companies choose to manufacture their products overseas, it’s easier to treat bad environmental practices as “out of sight, out of mind.” Choosing to invest in American factories and workers is also choosing to be responsible for our mistakes - mistakes that are made in your own backyard can’t go unnoticed. At Fanthread, we’ve made great strides in innovating more sustainable manufacturing methods. Each garment is directly printed, cut, and sewn in small batches in-house in Louisville, Kentucky, using zero water treatments. This eliminates the release of harmful chemicals via wastewater into the environment, and greatly reduces the energy needed in wet dying processes. We consider this a huge victory. SUSTAINABLE RESOURCES Our planet has a serious plastic problem. Scientists around the world recognize that with 8 million metric tons of plastic being dumped into the ocean annually, by 2050, we’ll have more plastic in the oceans than we’ll have fish. We already have massive patches of plastic floating through the ocean that rival Texas in size. It’s no surprise, then, that innovating new ways of recycling plastic waste will be one of our generation’s greatest missions. At Fanthread, we’re making a vital contribution to post-consumer plastic waste recycling. All of our apparel is spun from 100% post-consumer plastic water bottles that would otherwise find their way into our oceans. The average Fanthread t-shirt contains roughly five water bottles. But with fabric as soft as ours, you would never know it. SMALLER FOOTPRINT When you order sportswear with Fanthread, not only do you benefit from our environmentally-friendly manufacturing process, you also reduce your carbon footprint. Our vertical commerce model means that we’re specialists in what we do: each item is designed, cut and sewn to order, making it entirely unique. Traditional supply chains produce great quantities of the same product, leading to overstock and thus textile waste. Because Fanthread only manufactures products after they have been ordered, we have greatly reduced our production of waste, and yours. Simply put: say goodbye to overstock and textile waste. Say hello to a smaller carbon footprint. COLOR & MATERIAL Fanthread sportswear is better than basic. Whether you’re cramming for finals in the dorms or running a marathon, our cutting-edge performance fabric will get you to the finish line. And with textiles spun from 100% recycled plastic water bottles, you’re helping to keep our oceans clean with every wear. Our innovative textiles are made with quality and fit top of mind, so that you’ll want to wear your new crazy-soft tees and hoodies for years to come. And with rigorous selection, testing and revision done at every step of the manufacturing and design process, you’ll be able to. Made from 100% spun recycled plastic bottle textiles.
