Private and public keys

Last updated on Oct 01, 2026

A private key is like a password. Don’t share it with anyone. Keep it safe. Cryptocurrency is about individuals owning their assets, which means they have to take responsibility for them. You may have heard the horror stories of Bitcoin users losing their keys... Don’t be that person!

A public key is like an ID, which is used to send and receive cryptocurrencies or tokens to your wallet.

When you initiate a transaction, you sign it with your private key. Then, the proposed transaction is broadcast to the network of blockchain nodes.

Your private key in Sweat Wallet: you can view and copy it under Profile → Security → View private key (it asks you to type your secret phrase and shows the key derived from it; the option appears once your wallet has a secret phrase — add one first if you see Add secret phrase instead). Back it up before 30 December 2026, when Sweat Wallet and SWEAT as they exist today end: with the key saved outside the app you can control your NEAR account from any NEAR wallet that supports private key import.
