First Device Setup: Initial Firmware and First Update

1. Initial Firmware Your device arrives from the factory with Initial Factory Firmware installed. This is a lightweight startup environment — not the full operating system — designed specifically for the first-time setup. It will only appear once. Initial Firmware lets you: - View basic device information - Download the ERA Companion App - Install the Main Operational Firmware (latest release) 2. Powering On for the First Time ⚠️ Shipping Mode: New devices are locked in shipping mode. The power button will not work until the device has been placed on the charging pad. 1. Connect the included wireless charging pad to any USB power adapter (adapter not included). 2. Place the device on the charging pad — screen facing up, back side down. 3. The device will automatically power on and boot into the Initial Firmware home screen. 💡 No button press needed. Placing the device on the charger is enough to exit shipping mode and power on. 3. Running the First Update Before Era Wallet can be used, it must be updated to the Main Operational Firmware via the ERA Companion App. 1. Power on the device by placing it on the charging pad, then remove it from the charger. - If the battery level is below 40%, charge the device first before proceeding. 2. On the Initial Firmware home screen, press Start. 3. Select your smartphone platform (iOS or Android) and scan the QR code displayed on the device. This will take you to the ERA Companion App download page on the App Store or Google Play. 4. Press Next on the device and read through the Setup Guide displayed on screen. 5. Open the ERA Companion App on your smartphone: - Tap Let's Start - Select Update 4. Setting Up the NFC Connection The firmware update is transferred from your smartphone to the device over NFC. The app will guide you to find the correct position. 1. On the device, press Next to open the NFC connection screen. 2. In the app, tap Let's get started. 3. Hold your phone against the device as shown in the app. Place the phone's top edge against the Era Wallet. 4. When the correct position is found, the app will display: "Got it!" 💡 If no connection is detected, slide your phone slightly up or down while keeping it flat against the device. If you have a thick or metallic phone case, remove it — it may interfere with NFC communication. 5. Starting and Completing the Update ⚠️ Avoid overheating: Remove both your phone and the Era Wallet from any charger before starting the update. 1. Once the NFC position is confirmed, tap Start update in the app. 2. The app will display the list of components being updated along with a live progress bar. If the connection drops, the update will automatically resume from where it left off. Do not move your phone away from the device until the update is complete. 3. iOS users: A system pop-up will appear and disappear periodically during the update — this is normal. Do not interrupt the process. When the update is finished, the app will show: System Fully Updated. ✅ Your device is now running the latest Main Operational Firmware and is ready for the next step.
